1. Animals mark their territory. Your dog does not see this as misbehaving. Rather he is doing the job nature intended him to do. Cats and small animals also mark their territory as a form of communication or a way to track familiar paths.
2. Animals experience separation anxiety just like humans. Pets become anxious at being left alone by their families and since they cannot express this in words it can lead to their having accidents.
3. They are expressing submission. Studies show that animals will urinate when expressing submission to their master. It is a sign to us that they recognise us as their superiors.
4. They don’t know your visitors. Guests in your home (and your pets home ) will frequently cause your animal to behave differently including altering their bathroom habits. They maybe shy of strangers or dislike the smell of your guest all of which can cause your pet to feel anxiety.
5. You moved. Moving causes stress to your pet the same as it causes you or your children stress. Being in an unfamiliar place with new sights and smells initiates their inborn nature to mark new territory.
6. You went on vacation and took them with you. Ever notice that Fido or Max the cat behave differently on vacation? They don’t mean to, they just don’t know what else to do. It’s a whirlwind of new places and smells.
7. You have new addition to the family. It maybe another pet or a baby . Your dog or cat is no longer number one in the house. This causes confusion and feelings of being unwanted. They try to get attention by acting out. This also causes them to once again mark their territory so the new being does not infringe on what they consider is their space.
8. They don’t feel comfortable using the bathroom in public. Max the Cat's litter box is right next to the back door . All that noise, light and vibrations makes the cat nervous and reluctant to use the bathroom . So they seek secluded places to relieve themselves.
9. Incontinence affects pets too. Pets get old just like we do and with old age comes the inability to control urination. It is painful and embarrassing and there are remedies your veterinarian can provide to help through this stage.
10. They are having a reaction to a new food or drug. Animals have sensitivities just like humans and are susceptible to irritiation due to foods and medication just like we are. When you switch your pet’s flea treatment or food he may need some time to adjust.
When your best friend has an accident don’t get mad just reach for Urine-Off and remove the odour and stain. Get rid of the urine! Keep the love!
